Details on this Litter

This litter will be born between around Christmas 2016. The puppies will be chocolate in color. The dogs will be compact, stocky, and strong. We look forward to great things from this litter, as it is a repeat of a very successful breeding.

Griz and Melody have proven to throw one heck of a nice pup. They will be easy going around the house and very aggressive in the field. Customers should be able to plan on these dogs doing double duty as field dogs, family dogs, and in one case — a search and rescue dog. Note the following.

 • The scheduled pick-up weekend for the puppies will 8 weeks after the puppies are born. In this case early March. We look forward to seeing you all.
 • Please Mark it on your calendar.
 • If you are unable to be at the kennel for the scheduled pick-up alternative arrangements will need to be made prior to the pick-up date.
 • As per FAA regulations all puppies shipped via Delta Airlines can leave the kennel after the 8 week old date.
Learn More about Griz

Griz is a record setting dog in the APLA by becoming the first 4X GMPR at less than 2 years of age. At 23 months of age he broke the previous record of his half brother by over 6 months. Griz also went 5/5 in AKC senior 1 year of age! Griz will compete for his AKC Master title in the spring of 2012. I also ran Griz in his and my first shoot to retrieve event and finished a very respectable third (it would have been 2nd if I shot better). This finish was over 28 traditional pointing breed dogs in the pointing division. The event was the Pheasants Forever National Quail Championship in Kansas City and put on by Bird Hunters United. We plan to run more of these events next year!

Griz is one of those special dogs that has a huge motor in the field, but is very controllable and wants nothing more than to be a team player. Griz has an unbelievable demeanor for a dog with his power. He is truly a gentleman that is extremely intelligent & confident, but doesn’t have a dominate bone in his body. He is an excellent marking dog and is rock solid steady at the line. Griz has been a natural pointing dog from day 1 and point’s way off birds. He is extremely reliable and is allowed to run big in the CRP fields of South Dakota or comes in close for the heavy cover sloughs of Iowa.

Griz has a loaded pedigree including 6-Grand Master Pointing Retrievers, 7-Master Hunters, 8-Amateur Field Champions, 5-Field Champions,1-Qualified All Age, 1- 2xNational Amateur Field Champion, and 4- APLA Hall of Fame dogs! Some of the biggest names in the Pointing lab world and the Field Trial world have come together to create a truly exceptional animal!

Learn More about Dove

Below is a picture of a 1 year old Melody/Griz puppy.

HPK’s Unchained Melody— Mel is a beautiful 55 lb. brown female who has been a fun dog to work with. She has a bird drive that does not quit and she absolutely loves to retrieve. Mel used her instinctive pointing ability to pass her APLA CPR test on the first try in Girard, KS in Oct 2011 under the amateur handling of Nate Hamblin. Mel went out and smacked this test by pointing 5 birds and retrieving each to hand all in just under 10 minutes. Mel did so well that she earned the only perfect score of the day according to one of the judges. Mel defiantly fits the bill for being easy to train and when she is not working has the laid back personality that we look for at Hunters Point Kennel.

Mel will be entered to attain her AKC JH title this spring if her heat cycle allows this year…..She is not just a hunt test dog as she also gets it done getting bag limits of Pheasant in the South Dakota prairie. She has done a lot of great things for a dog that just turned three and so we are really looking forward to seeing what she can do in the future!

Mel’s pedigree is second to none as she is loaded with APLA Hall of Fame dogs, AKC Field Champions, and Master Hunter AKC titled dogs. Some of the highlights in her pedigree are APLA hall of fame dogs GMPR MHR HRCH Blackdog’s Bonkerjohn Kate MH & AFC Trieven Twist And Shout MH. If you are looking for more of the field trial lines you should notice FC-AFC Gator Pt’s Sweet Potato Pie & FC AFC Jazztime. If you are looking for a nice family dog and hunting companion a puppy from Mel may be just fit the requirements.
