American Kennel Club Breeder of Merrit
The AKC Breeder of Merrit Program is a program designed to feature the “Best of the Best” in the dog breeding world. AKC describes the program here in their own words:
“The AKC is proud to recognize AKC breeder of merit participants who are dedicated to breeding beautiful purebred dogs whose appearance, temperament, and ability are true to their breed.”
AKC rigorously scrubs the applicants and makes sure that they only take the cream of the crop. In order to be an “AKC Breeder of Merrit” you must :
AKC requires that any breeder designated as a “Breeder of Merit” have a history of at least 5 years of involvement in AKC events.
The Breeder of Merit program requires that a breeder have earned a “AKC Conformation, Performance or Companion event titles on a minimum of 4 dogs from AKC litters they bred/co-bred.”
In order to qualify for the “Breeder of Merit” program, the breeder must be a member of an AKC sanctioned club.
AKC certifies that applicable health screens are performed on any breeders breeding stock. Since there are many different breeds, the AKC requires that the breeders follow the specific club guideline.
AKC requires that their Breeders of Merit show a commitment to ensuring that 100% of the puppies they produce are AKC registered.
