This is a new litter for us this year. As most of you who follow us know, Griz’s son Bear is a big, tall, square looking dog that is a hunting fool. When I say big — I am not kidding, he has crossed 90 lbs a couple of times. Bailey is an impressive, long legged dog out of Bearpoint lines. Side note dog friends — what is it about the name “Bailey” It appears that every third lab I meet has that name. Ah well, I digress. The puppies out of this litter should lean to the larger end of the scale, pleasant looking and have plenty of drive, but also plenty of off switch.
Common question: What do you mean by off switch?
Answer: I mean that at the end of the day, when you put the gun, bumpers, or tennis balls away the dog does just as well at being a couch potato as it did chasing birds in the field. The ability to “Turn off” is just as important in a bird dog as is being able to charge the fields at 100 miles per hour.
If you like taller dogs this litter is for you! Bear and Bailey both have quite a bit of leg to them — so it only seems natural that their puppies will too. One other thought about this group in closing — Bailey was VERY easy to train. She wanted to please, liked the work, and never carried a grudge when corrected. Overall these puppies will make excellent hunting dogs, and laid back family companions. Who wouldn’t want that in a dog?
