HPK’s Miss Elley
Elley is a streamlined black female lab – that looks eerily similar to CPR Perkin’s Elle Mae. She has a pleasing head, smaller streamlined body and is a natural athlete. Elley has possibly one of the best noses of any dog I have every been around. She will point 20 yards off a bird at times – to the point where you wonder if there is even a bird in front of her.
Her sire is GMPR HPK’s Mr. Bo Jangles SH and her dam is CPR HPK’s Brown Sugar. We made this combination and kept two dogs out of it — Elley and her sister Snowy. Our goal was quite literally to get a dog that was relatively strong-willed, with a desire that does not quit.
Some of you may ask — Why on earth would you intentionally breed a hard-headed dog? We didn’t.
We bred for a dog that was relatively strong-willed. The goal was to make dogs would cross well back to Bear and Griz. Bear and Griz both tend to produce softer dogs. It is quite possible, with some of our females crossed to Griz, to make puppies whose feelings can be hurt by raising your voice. Since not all our clients are after this type of dog, we created Snowy and Elley. Dogs with HUGE motors and LOADS of talent, that have their own mind and will go their own way.
Elley is smaller than her littermate by 15 pounds or so. So, if a guy is looking for a smaller dog, Elley would be the better choice between the two. These differences are minor, but they do occur. Elley thinks more than her littermate. That sounds strange – but if you pardon the analogy – Snowy tends to be like Wiley Coyote running off the cliff with great desire before looking down. Elley tends to be like the Road Runner – She looks down first and then outthinks the bird. (Unlike the Coyote though – Elley does get the bird)
